A New Website Tells the Life Story and Musical Legacy of a Jazz Pioneer
Mary Lou Williams was one of the foremost jazz musicians of the 20th century. She was a pianist, arranger and composer who worked with everyone from from Duke Ellington to Benny Goodman, but never received proper recognition in her lifetime. The Mary Lou Williams Foundation enlisted Designsite to brand and design a new website that tells the life story and musical legacy of this extraordinary music pioneer.
Designsite had access to a treasure of musical assets including video, audio and original music to properly represent Mary’s life in music. Curated playlists, Mary Lou’s influence on younger audiences and collected archives provide for a rich user experience. A comprehensive compositions are included and can be licensed upon request. Updates keep the audience informed of features and recordings.
Michael DeMartin of Designsite called the project a career highlight: “we have worked with some of the great musical artists of our time, and we’re extremely proud to help bring a new audience of musicians and fans to this extraordinary artist. Mary Lou was one of the great artists of her time, and it’s our goal to share her incredible legacy via an engaging, educational and informative website to this new audience. We are so happy to be a part of this public reawakening of Mary’s life and music.”
