Website Design & Branding for Two Yacht Rock Legends
As we all probably know by now, Yacht Rock is a broad musical style and aesthetic commonly associated with soft rock, one of the most commercially successful genres from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, drawing on the West Coast sound, integrating pop, soft rock and smooth jazz. A brand-new HBO Original “Yacht Rock – a Dockumentary tells the story through the artists most identified by this genre music. Designsite is proud to have two of our clients featured in the film, David Pack of Ambrosia and Tom Scott, one of the top session musician of the 1970s and 1980s.
We highly recommend this engaging and fun documentary and it’s available to stream on HBO. Check it out! Following is some background of two of our favorite music clients.
David Pack: Ambrosia
David Pack is best known as the principal singer and songwriter for Ambrosia, the popular seventies group who’s hits included “How Much I Feel,” “Biggest Part of Me” and “You’re the Only Woman.” David called us a few years back, looking for a website to showcase his career in music. He cited our website design for Brian Wilson as an inspiration for his own website. In addition to the great success he had with Ambrosia, David went on to produce music for fellow Yacht Rockers, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, as well as artists including Phil Collins, Aretha Frankln, Linda Ronstadt and Mavis Staples. It was our job to showcase David’s various career phases, and he still remains active, having toured most recently with – you got it – another Yacht Rock legend, Christoper Cross.

Tom Scott: Session Man
Tom Scott was one of the busiest session musicians of the 1970s and 1980s, playing saxophone on a who’s who of classic 1970s and 1980s hits, including “Listen to What the Man Said” by Paul McCartney, “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson, “Saving all My Love for You” by Whitney Houston, “Rapture” by Blondie, “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” by Rod Stewart, and countless others. He’s also responsible for composing popular TV themes and movie scores. Tom’s connections led him to start a new career in podcasting, and he enlisted Designsite to brand “Tom Scott’s Podcast Express,” with our design integrating a saxophone and microphone, adorned by some retro 70s typography.
